Merkury Smart Plug Setup
The Merkury Smart Plug lets you control appliances like coffee makers, lamps, and fans from your phone without needing a separate smart home hub or bridge.
It is one of the most compact smart plugs on the market and also one of the most affordable. It works with voice commands through Amazon Alexa, Cortana, and Google Assistant, so you can turn devices on and off without reaching for your phone.
The plug has a low-profile puck shape with a three-prong socket on the front. The rear plug is positioned so it does not block the second outlet on a standard wall receptacle.
On the left side, you will find a backlit power button and a Wi-Fi status light. During setup, this light blinks blue. Once the plug is connected and online, it stays solid blue.

Before You Start
- Have your Wi-Fi network name and password on hand.
- Confirm your phone is running Android 4.1 or higher, or iOS 8 or higher.
- Make sure your router has a 2.4 GHz band available. The Merkury Smart Plug does not support 5 GHz networks.
Step 1: Download the Geeni App
- Go to the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android) and download the Geeni app. This is the official companion app for all Merkury smart home devices.
Step 2: Create an Account and Sign In
- Open the Geeni app and tap “Register.”
- Enter your phone number (with country code) or your email address.
- Type in the verification code sent to your number or email.
- Create a passcode, confirm it, and complete registration.
- Sign in with your new credentials.
Step 3: Plug In and Prepare the Smart Plug
- Insert the Merkury Smart Plug into a wall outlet. The notification light should start flickering blue, which means it is ready to pair.
- Open the Geeni app and get ready to add the device.
- You can connect using either Easy Mode or AP Mode. Both are described below.
Easy Mode Setup
- Make sure the plug is powered on and the notification light is blinking rapidly.
- In the Geeni app, tap the plus (+) icon in the top corner of the “Devices” tab.
- Select “Smart Power” from the device categories.
- If the blue light is not blinking fast, press and hold the power button on the plug for about 3 seconds until it starts rapid blinking. Then tap “Yes, it’s blinking quickly.”
- Enter your Wi-Fi network name and password.
- The app will search for and connect to your plug automatically.
AP Mode Setup
- Confirm the plug is powered on and the notification light is blinking.
- In the Geeni app, tap the plus (+) icon on the “Devices” tab.
- Select “Smart Power.”
- Tap “AP Mode” in the top corner of the screen.
- Tap “Next,” then enter your Wi-Fi credentials.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to select the smart plug from the list of available Wi-Fi networks.
- The plug will connect to your home Wi-Fi, and setup is complete.

Can You Group Multiple Merkury Smart Plugs?
Yes. The Geeni app lets you organize plugs into groups by room, floor, or any label you prefer. For example, you could create a “Kitchen” group and an “Entire House” group, with your kitchen plugs assigned to both.
How Many Plugs Can You Connect?
The Geeni app itself does not impose a device limit. The practical cap depends on how many devices your router can handle at the same time.

How Do You Rename a Merkury Smart Plug?
