How to Reset Blink Camera – Getting Started

Home security is a top priority for many who wish to ensure safety and receive notifications about security breaches. Luckily, numerous security devices are available for indoor and outdoor use.

Blink is one brand that stands out with its range of mid-range smart cameras, known for their ease of setup and usability. You can integrate several cameras for a comprehensive surveillance system.

However, technical issues may arise, necessitating a reset of the device.

Whether you’re troubleshooting or preparing to transfer ownership, here are the steps to reset your Blink camera.

For most Blink cameras, resetting involves the sync module. However, Blink Mini cameras, which operate independently of the sync module, require a different approach. Let’s dive in!

How to Reset Blink Camera – The reasons why people reset their Blink cameras

People typically reset their Blink cameras for two main reasons:

  1. When the camera is malfunctioning.
  2. When intending to clear the camera’s data completely.

If your Blink camera is not functioning properly, a reset might resolve the issue. If not, power cycling your sync module or WiFi router could be an alternative solution.

Reset Blink Indoor, Outdoor, XT, and XT2

While the Blink Mini features an accessible external reset button, other models like the XT and XT2 have a reset button under the back cover.

  1. To reset these models, begin by removing the camera from the app. Tap the ‘?’ icon, select ‘Delete Sync Module,’ input the serial number, and confirm by tapping ‘Delete.’
  2. Power on the camera and remove the back cover.
  3. Use a small tool, such as a safety pin or SIM ejector, to press the reset button in a small hole to the left of the right-hand battery slot. Hold the reset button down for about 10 seconds.
  4. While pressing the reset button, remove the batteries.
  5. A red light will flash, indicating the camera has disconnected from the sync module and has been fully reset.
  6. Reconnect the camera to the app and WiFi network to complete the process.

Reset Blink Mini

The Blink Mini, which does not require a sync module, can be reset directly.

  1. Hold the reset button on the bottom of the Blink Mini for 10 to 15 seconds.
  2. During the reset, a blue and green light will flash to indicate the process is complete.
  3. The Blink Mini can be added to a sync module for those who choose, but it follows a direct reset process as described. After resetting, you must reconnect it to the app and WiFi.

Reset Blink Sync Module

Resetting a Blink camera connected to a Sync Module involves resetting it. This action will disconnect all cameras linked to it and return the module to setup mode.
To reset the Blink Sync Module:

  1. Disconnect the USB power cable from the Sync Module.
  2. Locate the reset button on the side of the module.
  3. Use a thin object to press and hold the reset button.
  4. While holding the button, reconnect the USB power cable.
  5. Wait for the module’s light to turn red.
  6. Release the reset button.
  7. The Sync Module will then enter setup mode, indicated by alternating blue and green lights.

Final Thought

Resetting your Blink camera is straightforward but should not be the first step in troubleshooting.
Initially, try power cycling your Sync Module and WiFi router. If issues persist, proceed with the reset steps above.
